Sumaeya Akhter is working as a Senior Research Associate at Research and Policy Integration for Development (RAPID). She works a data Analyst with a strong background in analyzing trade data, including tariff, market access conditions, non-tariff measures, and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) requirements. She has worked on studies commissioned by various reputable organizations, including the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Economic Relations Division of Bangladesh, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Bangladesh, UN DESA, UNDP, UNESCAP, UNICEF, among others.
She is experienced in extracting, cleaning, and analyzing data from various sources, including National Board of Revenue (NBR), Bangladesh Bank, Export Promotion Bureau, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, ITC Trademap, EU Comext, OECD Stat, World Development Indicators, International Monetary Fund, UN Comtrade, and WITS. She is proficient in using Excel, STATA, and EViews to undertake data analysis efficiently.
She has a deep understanding of market access, comparative advantage, and export-import related issues, which allows her to conduct insightful research and provide valuable recommendations to stakeholders. Currently, she is working on a project related to "Market Access, Comparative Advantage, and Export Diversification", where her key responsibilities include conducting background research, extracting and cleaning data, analyzing data on tariffs, market access conditions, and SPS requirements, and preparing high-quality visualizations and reports for the project.
Besides, she has conducted key informant interviews (KIIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs) with exporters and importers to gain up-to-date information on trade and enhance the research report informative.
