Dr. Shyamain Wickramasingha

Visiting Fellow


Dr. Shyamain Wickramasingha is a Visiting Fellow at RAPID Centre for International Trade (RCIT), holds a PhD in Economic Geography from the National University of Singapore. Her thesis focused on labour regimes in global production networks, specifically comparing the Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan apparel industries.
She has a rich academic background with an MSc in Sustainable Development from the University of St Andrews, UK, and is a graduate of The Chartered Governance Institute (ICSA) UK. Her research is highly focused on labour regimes, global production networks, and ethical codes within the apparel industry.
Dr. Wickramasingha’s contributions to academia include various journal articles, book chapters, and papers, addressing key issues like informal labour, corporate social responsibility, and the impact of COVID-19 on supply chains. She has been awarded numerous research grants and fellowships, including the prestigious ESRC New Investigator Grant.
Her work extends beyond academia, with significant industry experience in corporate sustainability, sustainable development, and poverty alleviation, having worked with organisations such as HSBC Sri Lanka, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
In her current roles, Dr. Wickramasingha is a Research Fellow at the University of Sussex Business School and a Visiting Fellow at Copenhagen Business School, focusing on apparel production networks and labour vulnerabilities.
